Position Mandate:        

The Chief Operations Officer (COO) is responsible for the overall management of the day to day Programs and Services of the MLCN as directed by the Chief Executive Officer.  As a member of the Management Team, the Chief Operations Officer (COO) will support and assist the Department Managers of the MLCN to ensure the efficient and comprehensive program delivery for our members.

 

Job Summary:

The Chief Operations Officer is a highly motivated and career minded individual.  The COO is results-oriented leader with a passion for improving the quality of life for the MLCN band members through the efficient administration of programs and services.  The COO functions as a hands-on, operational, and administrative leader with high ethical standards, personal accountability, expertise and passion.

Skills and Qualifications:        

The Chief Operations Officer (COO) will demonstrate knowledge and/or competencies in:

  • First Nations culture, language, and governance structure and function
  • Strong knowledge of funding agencies and associated requirements
  • Understanding of financial reports including budgetary guidelines and project expenditures
  • Ability to develop, implement and evaluate programs, policies and procedures
  • Work-plan and budget alignment
  • Policy, protocol, and operational practice development
  • Financial and budgeting processes and asset management
  • Human Resources Management
  • Change management
  • Proposal writing and reporting
  • Multi-tasking and time management
  • Confidentiality and discretion
  • Communications (oral, written, and digital forums)
  • Proficient in the use of digital tools
  • Familiar with funding agencies and reporting requirement

General Expectations:

  • Acts in the best interest of the MLCN, its Band members, and its residents in accordance with its vision, values, and operating principles
  • Stay in close communication with the Chief Executive Officer regarding all matters pertaining to the operations of MLCN
  • Organize and provide technical advisory services to the Chief Executive Officer as requested
  • Conduct themselves ethically, professionally, and with integrity
  • Satisfy all the standards of behavior, attitude, performance, and engagement as established by the Band’s Code of Conduct and professional standards
  • Promote favorable public image of the MLCN community in general
  • Demonstrate leadership character and be a positive role model
  • Behave in a friendly and professionalmanner, demonstrating courtesy and consideration, thoughtfulness, and self-control in all areas of services and job functions
  • Collaborate harmoniously with other staff members and departments including taking a leadership role in organizing interagency meetings and events
  • Engage actively in Band Office activities and in the MLCN community
  • Participate in continuous improvement by gaining knowledge, developing skills and increasing in competencies
  • Foster an environment that promotes a culture of continuous improvement

Credentials:

  • Post-secondary education with a degree or diploma/certification in business administration
  • Evidence of on-going in-service professional development in related disciplines such as administration, management, human resources management, financial management, etc.
  • Five years of direct management experience
  • A clear criminal record and vulnerable sector check
  • A Saskatchewan Class 5 Driver’s License
