Update for Members: Upcoming Ratification Votes and Information Package

As part of Muskeg Lake Cree Nation’s ongoing efforts to strengthen our governance and uphold our Treaty rights, two important ratification votes will take place on June 7, 2025. All eligible members are encouraged to participate and stay informed by reviewing the full information package.

What Are We Voting On?

1. Treaty 6 Agricultural Benefits Settlement Agreement & Trust Agreement

Members will vote on whether to approve a $121 million settlement with Canada to resolve longstanding failures to provide promised agricultural benefits and instruction under Treaty 6. If approved, the funds will be held in a trust for the long-term benefit of MLCN members and future generations.

2. Amendments to the Muskeg Lake Band (TLE) Trust Agreement

This vote asks members to approve an updated version of the existing TLE Trust Agreement. The amended and restated agreement reflects modern governance practices and clearer financial accountability for how future TLE capital is managed. The updated agreement aims to streamline trust operations, ensure consistency with current Nation priorities, and improve how funding is accessed and reported.
