Over the past few months, Muskeg Lake Cree Nation has made steady progress on our journey toward Inherent and Treaty-based self-government. Fall membership meetings in Prince Albert, Saskatoon, Edmonton, and Muskeg Lake saw strong turnouts, with citizens offering vital feedback on citizenship, financial accountability, and the impacts of the Indian Act.
At the negotiation tables with Canada and Saskatchewan, we continue to refine our Self-Government Agreement, focusing on areas like citizenship, child and family services, and governance. Sub-tables are also advancing work on data ownership, capital planning, and funding needs.
Kotawān has been actively connecting with families across Canada to support cultural plans, prevention programs, and reunification efforts, while community camps and therapy programs continue under the Progressive Model Project.
Survey results show a majority of citizens value self-government and feel increasingly engaged, though efforts continue to reach those who feel neutral or uninvolved. Community input remains central to this process.
Stay connected and have your say—our survey is still open! We’ll continue to keep you updated as this important work moves forward.
