Inherent and Treaty Self Government September Newsletter

Tānsi! We’re excited to share some important updates from our latest Muskeg Lake Cree Nation newsletter, all about the journey toward self-government and reconnecting with our roots.

One of the key highlights is the kotawān Act, which brings our authority over child and family services back into our hands. This is a big step in moving away from the Indian Act and returning the decision-making power to our community, guided by Cree law and our traditional ways. Through self-government, we’ll be able to protect and uplift our culture, language, and values for future generations.

We’ve also been having conversations with Canada and Saskatchewan about how we can make this transition smooth and respectful, ensuring we have financial stability and a stronger future for our people.

Our Treaty Day celebrations and membership meetings this summer were a reminder of the strength and unity of our people, It was wonderful to see so many of you come out and share your thoughts on what self-government means for Muskeg Lake.
